Concept:
The artist used the concept of capturing motion to interact with the artwork. He represent the motion by adding the use of red LED to show where the motion is detected and the sound as a medium to identify the presence of movement. This set of artwork needs a complex digital interface system to detect each of the interaction between user and the artwork. Any single movement will be detected and displayed in the form of red LED.
Description :
The installation is in the form of arrangement red LED in a complex digital interface system. This artwork is represent on a wall. An IR sensor is placed on the artwork to detect to physical movement. All this red LED is monitored by an 8-bit micro controller. Each movement towards the artwork is detected via infra red.
Interaction :
The artwork interact with the user by capturing each of the physical movement. The infrared is used to detect any single physical movement. Once we move along the pathway or along the artwork, it detects our motion and then it channel the motion into the trigger set on the artwork. When me make a movement, the red LED on the artwork interact with our movement. When a motion is detected, a sound will play according to the movement. The relay system is applied on this artwork to make sure that when movement is present, the sound will play while when we stop, the sound will also stop.
Technology involved :
The technology involved in this artwork is the used of digital interface system. In order to convert the motion captured, we need a specific system and gadget. In this artwork, the artist used the red LED to represent or locate the motion detected. This means where is the motion located on the artwork. Next, the use of the sound. This is the way where the artist can identify the presence of artwork by using the triggering sound. The use of 8-bit micro controller is to monitor each of the movement detected and control the red LED.
Personal Comment :
In my opinion, I like the concept of the artwork. The artist combined a few elements in identifying the motion. The use of the red LED is one of the creative way to locate the motion detected. The infrared plays a great rules in the artwork as it detect every single bit or motion, so the red LED lights accurately according to the motion detected by the infrared. Next, the use of music or audio is the way to detect to presence of motion. So, I see that idea is one of the best idea in detecting the motion.
As my suggestion, the artwork may have a few improvement in terms of the artwork itself and the concept that the artist used. First, the use of red LED. It looks flat in the artwork as it only appear in one color. I prefer to use many colors as to make it more colorful and attractive. Next, the use of sound when the motion detected can be use not only the same sound. Various sound effects and audio can be used instead of using only one single audio.
